If you are looking for a sleeper – fast, game-changing, all metal Chromebook – the brand new HP Chromebook 13 G1 may be the right notebook computer for you. This is for people who like Chrome OS and really want to buy a Pixel – but would prefer to spend half the cost. This is a full metal, high resolution Chromebook – starting at $499.
With a lightweight battery – it still packs a punch and gives 11.5 hours of use. The battery life, combine with the power may be the best thing about this chromebook.
Based on what model you choose – HP has packed this Chromebook with a QHD+ Panel – that is 5.76 million pixels or 3200 x 1800 pixels to provide you better pixel density that google pixel for a razor-sharp display. Early reports say the QHD screen is unbelievable. The best screen ever seen on a Chromebook – making it better than the Pixel’s wonderful screen. The only thing missing in terms of screen is a touchscreen and short term plans do not include that option. Seeing this is aimed at the business user – I’m not sure it will be missed.

All models have 32GB of eMMC storage, 867Mbps 802.11ac and Bluetooth 4.2. One bonus feature is a backlit keyboard – the trackpad is multitouch so as a MacBook or late model PC replacement…you will not miss a beat. Again – early reports have the keyboard a little lacking. The key stroke is a little shallow – not a game stopper…but not as nice as the display.
You can push the easy button when it comes to security and maintenance with the ChromeOS. It has multi-layered security, and will keep everything up to date for you…you do nothing, built in virus protection and encryption. If you need to over see a bunch of chromebooks – use the Chrome Management Console.
HP was listening to users when it added some extra ports – the HP Chromebook 13 G1 has not one, but two USB Type-C ports and one USB Type-A port. These are located on the left side and gives users the ability to use some of the peripherals without dragging along a docking station.
HP has the power Chromebook user in mind with this offering. This definitely falls in the power business or pro-consumer lines. The HP Chromebook 13 G1 will not disappoint and have more people converting to the netbook market sooner than we may have first thought.
This is the type of Chromebook needed to take a bite out of power users of laptops. This coupled with the news that Google will be letting android apps run on chromebooks is a game changer.
“On the basis of quality and value, I give this outstanding new 13.3-Inch HP Chromebook 13 G1 notebook computer a five-star rating, along with my highest recommendation.”
“If you are looking to be all ChromeOS all the time – this is Pixel level quality at half price.”
“This all metal powerhouse will have you tattooing ChromeOS on your forehead.”
