The Toshiba Chromebook 2 CB35-B3340 is one of the most popular Chromebooks available. It has the best display of any Chromebook in the price range. It may not be the fastest, but it’s certainly the nicest to look at.
If you’re looking for a high-end racehorse, you may want to consider the Acer C720 4GB i3 Chromebook. However, the C720 doesn’t have nearly as nice of a screen. This laptop is more than capable of most tasks though, including watching 1080P video.
This is hands down the best model to purchase if a quality display is important to you. There are quite a few models on the market with really terrible screens right now, which is unfortunate. They may have better specs on paper, but they’ll never match the Toshiba in picture quality.
The color accuracy and saturation are extremely impressive. The brightness and contrast are on point and the viewing angles are wide in every direction. The screen is amazingly sharp, which is important for a Full HD display of this size. Everything is very readable, even with the high resolution.
The moment you get this laptop in your hands you will notice how well it is made. The case is strong and resists flexing. The hinges on the screen are unwaveringly tight. The finish is of a high quality, and very smudge resistant.
The speakers are sufficiently loud and top firing, playing undistorted at the highest volume levels. The battery lasts for 6-9 hours and charges in just 2 hours. The keyboard and touchpad are responsive and quiet.
At the time of writing this, there were 168 user contributed reviews available on Amazon. Out of those, this Chromebook scored a 4.5 out of 5 stars overall.
Although most of the reviews are extremely positive, there is one issue worth noting. One reviewer described it “when it comes to using Chrome OS on a 13″ screen at this resolution you may encounter some issues. Unlike the latest versions of Windows and Mac operating systems, Chrome OS does not automatically scale up icons and text based on the screens resolution. What this means is that things can get a bit small on the Toshiba’s 13″ full HD display.”
This is understandable considering the extremely high resolution on a smaller screen. The developer release of Chrome OS is already working on a solution, which should be available shortly. There are system settings you can use to increase the text size, or use Ctrl + in any tab to increase the font size.
Of course, most people have been quite impressed by this Chromebook. Reviews commonly state things such as “It does everything I need it to do exceptionally, even surprisingly well, and the wonderful display continues to impress.” and “it just keeps getting better and better with each Chrome OS update”.
If you’re a power user that’s looking for performance, the Acer C720 i3 with 4 GB of ram is probably the way to go. If you are more of a casual user, this Toshiba Chromebook 2 with IPS display is a much better choice. Other models may be more powerful, and some may even be cheaper, but this model is definitely the best built, with the highest quality display.
